Pre-Order Guarantee Model

The pre-order marketplace that brings buyers and sellers together for goods that take months to deliver: part of the buyer's payment stays blocked at a licensed partner institution, the rest is secured by the seller's collateral, and if nothing is delivered the buyer gets back everything paid plus damages.

The problem

In prepaid sales the delivery risk sits with the buyer

Homes, machinery, pre-harvest produce: the buyer pays today, the goods arrive months later. Until then the only guarantee is often the seller's word.

  • Buyers pay months before delivery; if nothing arrives, getting the money back is slow and uncertain.
  • Honest sellers cannot show they are trustworthy, so they cannot sell in advance and fund production with costly finance instead.
  • Financial institutions never see these payments: the customer, the collateral and the transaction stay outside.

Missing trust costs both the buyer and the honest seller.

The solution

A four-part guarantee

ÖnGar ties every prepaid sale to an account at a licensed partner institution and secures it with four parts.

  1. BlockageThe buyer's payment goes to an account at the partner institution; part or all of it stays blocked until delivery.
  2. CollateralThe seller posts collateral: cash, a mortgage, a letter of guarantee, a vehicle pledge, receivables or insurance, valued by the partner institution.
  3. LimitThe maximum indemnity of the open orders is set aside from the collateral first; the rest is the seller's transaction limit. Sales within the limit are partly blocked, the part above it in full.
  4. Delivery confirmationThe buyer confirms delivery; after a short holding period the blocked amount goes to the seller. No delivery: refund from the blockage, then from the collateral.

A modern form of the fair-trade ethic of the Anatolian Ahi guilds: until the goods are delivered, the buyer's money is held in trust.

How it works

Five steps from pre-order to delivery

How it works

Five steps from pre-order to delivery. At every step the money stays with the licensed partner institution.

  1. Step 1: The buyer places a pre-orderPays in cash or in instalments before delivery and gets a better price for paying early.
  2. Step 2: The payment goes to the partnerThe payment goes to an account at the partner institution. For a sale within the limit, part goes to the seller and the rest stays blocked.
  3. Step 3: The seller produces and deliversThe delivery period is set in the contract: from 2 to 24 months.
  4. Step 4: The buyer confirms deliveryConfirmation records the delivery and starts a short holding period.
  5. Step 5: The money is released to the sellerWhen the holding period ends, the blocked amount is transferred to the seller.
BranchIf not delivered: refund + indemnityIf the deadline passes without delivery, the buyer gets the payments and an indemnity back: first from the blockage, then from the seller's collateral.

Money flow

Where does the money go?

Example money split: $200,000 cash sale

Commission 4% · in-limit blockage 30% · yearly indemnity 36% · delivery in 24 months. The seller's collateral covers the sale (within the limit).

Paid by the buyer: $200,000

Example money splitPaid by the buyer $200,000: commission $8,000, transferred to the seller now $134,400, blocked $57,600. If not delivered the buyer gets $344,000 back: $57,600 from the blockage, $286,400 from the collateral.
  • Platform commission$8,000
  • Transferred to the seller now$134,400
  • Blocked at the partner institutionTransferred to the seller 60 days after delivery.$57,600

Refund to the buyer if not delivered: $344,000

  • Refund: from the blockage$57,600
  • Refund: from the seller's collateral$286,400

Amount paid + 24 months of indemnity (at the yearly rate, pro rata to the time elapsed; in both models).

Collateral and limit

Collateral sets the limit

Collateral sets the limit

Each open order's maximum indemnity is set aside from the seller's collateral first and the rest is the limit; the more collateral, the higher the limit and the more cash the seller can use right away.

Blockage within and above the limitFor sales within the limit about 20–30 percent of the payment stays blocked, for sales above the limit all of it; the rest goes to the seller.
  • Transferred to the seller
  • Stays blocked
  1. Collateral − indemnity reserve = limitThe seller posts collateral and the partner institution values it. Every open order (within or above the limit) sets aside the maximum indemnity owed if it is not delivered; the rest of the collateral is the transaction limit.
  2. Within the limit: partial blockageAbout 20–30% of the payment stays blocked until after delivery; the rest goes to the seller.
  3. Above the limit: 100% blockageThe whole part above the limit stays blocked until after delivery; the order's indemnity reserve still comes out of the collateral.
  4. Extra collateral releases blockageIf the seller adds collateral, the limit grows and part of the blockage is released.

Rates are examples; each partner institution sets its own.

Timeline

From pre-order to the seller's payout

Timeline

From the pre-order to the last transfer to the seller.

  1. Day 0Pre-orderThe buyer pays; the contract and delivery date are recorded.
  2. 2 to 24 monthsProduction and deliveryThe seller produces; the blocked part waits at the partner.
  3. Delivery dayDelivery confirmedThe buyer confirms delivery.
  4. ~60 days after deliveryTransferThe blocked amount is transferred to the seller.
Payment plan
  • Cash: paid in full when ordering.
  • Instalments: a down payment and monthly instalments; the financing cost follows the partner institution's rate card.

In the participation model the instalment markup is a profit share fixed into the sale price up front; no extra charge accrues on late payment.

Institution mode

Each partner institution works with its own financing model

Limits, blockage, release and non-delivery damages (pro rata at a yearly rate) work the same in both modes; only instalment pricing and the wording differ. The mode is set per institution.

Participation model

Participation banks, savings finance companies

  • In instalment plans the profit share is added to the sale price once, in the contract; nothing accrues on a balance.
  • Without delivery the buyer gets the payments back plus damages pro rata to the time elapsed at the yearly rate.
  • No extra charge for late payment.
  • A prepaid sale is close to the salam (advance payment, deferred delivery) and istisna (manufacture to order) contracts. Compliance is decided by the institution's advisory board.

Conventional model

Banks, payment institutions

  • In instalment plans the financing cost follows the institution's rate card.
  • Without delivery the buyer gets the payments back plus damages in proportion to the time elapsed.
  • A late-payment charge applies only if the institution defines one.

The mode can only change while there are no open orders; every order keeps the rate card it was priced with.

Sectors

Phase 1: physical goods delivered months after payment

  • Construction and housing projectsOff-plan sales: the buyer pays during construction, the home changes hands on delivery.
  • Custom-built machineryMachinery and equipment built to order, with a down payment and interim payments.
  • Agricultural produce (pre-harvest)Pre-harvest sales: the grower funds the season with the buyer's payment.
  • GoodsFurniture and durable goods made or sourced to order.
  • Imported productsGoods brought in from abroad; foreign-currency purchasing comes in a later phase.
  • AutomotiveVehicle pre-orders: the buyer pays until delivery; the rest can be the partner's vehicle credit at delivery (registration to the buyer, pledge to the partner).
  • Technology and electronicsPre-orders of upcoming electronic devices and equipment; if they are not delivered, the payment and the indemnity are guaranteed.

Phase 2: services — education, tourism, events, health.

Business model

What is in it for the partner institution?

  • Commission income: a transaction commission on the sale price, shared between the platform and the partner institution; the split is set in the contract with the institution.
  • New customers: buyers and sellers open accounts with the institution; the seller relationship starts with collateral and a limit.
  • Funds that stay with you: the blocked amount stays at the institution until delivery and the end of the holding period.
  • Secured, traceable transactions: the limit is tied to collateral; refunds come from the blockage first, then the collateral; every step is in the audit trail.
  • Instalment financing: on the institution's own rate card and model (participation or conventional).

Worked example

Platform commission
$8,000
Blocked at the partner institution
$57,600

On a $200,000 cash sale the commission is $8,000. $57,600 stays blocked at the institution for the delivery period (24 months) and until 60 days after delivery.

Example rates (commission 4%, in-limit blockage 30%); the amounts come from the calculation engine.
